5 Star Green Star - Design​

WATERCARE HOUSE
73 Remuera Rd​, Auckland
 

Building DescriptionNew commercial office building with an NLA of ~13,500sqm.  The development consists of five above ground office levels and three basement car park levels.  The development achieved a 5 Star Green Star Design and Built rating.



SEEC Scope: ESD / Green Star Services
ESD services and building performance modelling of Energy Use, Occupant Thermal Comfort and Natural Daylighting.  SEEC also  provided Green Star Compliance modelling and the Green Star Accredited Professional (GSAP) role.  SEEC compiled the project’s Green Star submission working closely with the client to ensure robust, cost effective green solutions were provided.

Building Description: New commercial office building with an NLA of ~8,000sqm.  The development consists of 4 above ground office levels and 2 basement car parking floors.  The development achieved a 4 Star Green Star Design and Built Rating.

4 Star Green Star - Design​

KINGSWAY PRIMARY SCHOOL
Silverdale, Auckland

 

Building Description: New primary school development consisting of two main teaching buildings, ~1,300sqm each and an administration building complete with a gymnasium, ~1,000sqm. 



SEEC Scope: Mechanical Services / Thermal Comfort & Shade Analysis
Adopted and developed a thermal comfort design criteria suitable for students.  Provided shading analysis, daylighting, thermal modelling, space overheating/occupant thermal comfort calculations for the classroom buildings.  Provided suitable mechanical ventilation rates and assessed the benefit of an active cooling system.  Provided H1 compliance reports and calculation for the three new buildings.

Building Description: New commercial office building with an NLA of 2,500sqm.  The development consists of two levels of office space and a basement car parking level.  The development achieved a Green Star Design Rating of 4 Stars.

DOWNER WIRI SUPERSITE,

Building Description: New commercial office building with an NLA of 4,000sqm.  The development consists of 2 levels of office space and a basement car parking level.  The development achieved a Green Star Design Rating of 4 Stars.

ESD services and building performance modelling of Energy Use, Occupant Thermal Comfort and Natural Daylighting.  SEEC also provided Green Star Compliance modelling and the Green Star Accredited Professional (GSAP) role.  SEEC successfully compiled the project’s Green Star submission by working closely with the design team, ensuring the client's ‘green’ initiatives were duly recognised by Green Star.

OFFICE REFURBISHMENT
Devonport Ferry Terminal



Building Description: Building refurbishment located on the upper level of the Devonport ferry terminal, 400sqm. Design included a low-level open plan office area and a mezzanine work space.  The design concept included a natural ventilation strategy via low-level louvre openings with a high-level pop-up roof providing the exhaust air path.



SEEC Scope: Natural ventilation, Passive Design & Thermal Comfort Study
The natural ventilation study included the analysis of passive design measures such as solar shading, blinds, glazing/facades, thermal mass, night ventilation, buoyancy driven stack ventilation and the use of Phase Change Material (PCM).  Occupant thermal comfort was assessed and the risk of space overheating during summer months quantified.

STUDENT AMENITIES BUILDING 
Massey University, Albany Campus

 

Building Description: New building (3000sqm) comprising of student common areas, café, dinning, retail, and office spaces spread over two floors.  The lower floor café, dinning and circulation spaces were naturally ventilated while the upper level included mixed mode HVAC systems.



SEEC Scope: ESD Services / Natural Ventilation Design

Design of a robust natural ventilation strategy to optimise occupant thermal comfort levels and reduce space overheating during summer months.  The natural ventilation study included the analysis of passive design measures such as solar shading, glazing, thermal mass & night ventilation, buoyance driven stack ventilation, etc.

WANGANUI VELODROME,
Wanganui

Building Description: Competition for a new high performance cycling facility.  A translucent tensile membrane roofing system covered both the race track and associated spectator seating area, split over two levels.  The main facility was to include a natural ventilation strategy designed to control the track air temperature via air openings to achieve optimal racing conditions during summer months.


SEEC Scope: Thermal Modelling & Natural Ventilation
Development of the natural ventilation strategy.  Provided thermal performance modelling to determine the required solar performance of the fabric membrane roof and the required area of natural ventilation openings.
